Melrose Hill, LA is a neighborhood in the Culver City area within Los Angeles County, California, United States. Melrose Hill is bounded by Palms Boulevard, Washington Boulevard, Fairfax Avenue, and Culver Boulevard. Melrose Hill was first home to many Anglo aristocrats in the mid-20th century. It is the southernmost part of the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. Its boundaries are the Hollywood Freeway on the west, the Tujunga Wash on the north, the Ventura Freeway on the east, and the Melrose Avenue on the south. Melrose Hill was named after the large hill that dominates its north-western side.

It offers the best of both worlds when it comes to living in the Hollywood area. With restaurants, shops, and entertainment in both Hollywood and Los Angeles within walking distance, Melrose Hill is a place you’ll never want to leave.

One such building is the Melrose Hill Mansion, which was built by Los Angeles businessman, Frank W. Fenton, in 1918. It was purchased in the 1920s by the famous movie producer, Henry King, and his wife, actress Jean Parker. The Kings used the estate as a weekend home while they resided in Hollywood, where they produced movies like, “The Song of Bernadette” and “Joan of Arc.”

Melrose Hill is the first hill of Los Angeles and the location of the city’s first business district. It is also the location of Franklin High School, the neighborhood’s central gathering point. There is a need to preserve this history of the city which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
